marv, RE: The name Intel carries great weight and opens many doors for the fledgling enterprises. Earnings for most VC's will decrease but not for the likes of Intel.

There are lots of VC's that can open just as many doors as Intel. In fact, firms like Kleiner Perkins, Benchmark, or Vulcan could be argued to have competitive advantages over Intel. To take an extreme example, there are good reasons why Intel is not an investor in Transmeta, but Vulcan is.

I am not trying to say that Intel isn't good at venture capital, or even that they are not better than most. I am just saying that the venture capital returns of the past couple of years most likely will not be duplicated, and Intel will not be immune.
