Thundermin and Queenston Boundary drill results
Thundermin Resources Inc THR Shares issued 31,327,571 2000-04-07 close $0.215 Monday Apr 10 2000 See Queenston Mining Inc (QMI) News Release Mr. John Heslop and Mr. Hugh Harbinson report Thundermin Resources and 50-per-cent joint venture partner Queenston Mining have received assay results from an additional 17 holes recently completed on the North and South zones of the near surface Boundary massive copper-zinc sulphide deposit located in west-central Newfoundland. The purpose of this drilling was to aid in defining the limits of the massive sulphide mineralization prior to commencing a new open pit resource calculation. Highlights include 4.2 per cent Cu and 4.8 per cent Zn over 12.9 metres in hole 166; 1.8 per cent Cu and 4.7 per cent Zn over 11.4 m in 168; 1.3 per cent Cu and 5.6 per cent Zn over 6.1 m in 169 from the North Zone and 4.2 per cent Cu over 8.6 m in hole 172; 3.7 per cent Cu over 4.3 m in 175; 4.2 per cent Cu over 8.8 m in 176; 4.5 per cent Cu over 6.5 m in 177; and 4.1 per cent Cu and 3.8 per cent Zn over 16.4 m in 178 from the South zone (see attached table and news releases in Stockwatch Dec. 6, 13, 1999, and Feb. 17, 2000, for a complete list of all previously announced Boundary assay data and a description of the current continuing drill program). The Boundary deposit is located within the 11,796 hectare Duck Pond property approximately four kilometres northeast of the high-grade Duck Pond massive sulphide deposit. The results of the current Boundary drilling have expanded and confirmed the continuity and grade of the 446,000 tonne inferred resource which grades 3.5 per cent Cu, 3.5 per cent Zn, 0.5 per cent Pb and 22.8 grams per tonne Ag. In addition, three holes were drilled in the North Moose Pond area to determine the source of numerous large boulders and frost-heaved blocks of intensely chloritized stringer pyrite-chalcopyrite mineralization known to occur in the area. No economic mineralization was encountered, however, one hole intersected approximately 85 m of variably altered felsic and mafic volcanic rocks containing up to 5 per cent pyrite and trace chalcopyrite mineralization. A downhole pulse electromagnetic (EM) survey and further drilling is warranted in this area. One hole was also collared in the South Moose Pond area to test a coincident horizontal loop, pulse EM and gravity anomaly where disseminated chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena and pyrite mineralization had been discovered on surface within intensely altered felsic volcanic rocks. This hole was suspended before completion due to deteriorating spring weather conditions. It is anticipated that drilling in the South Moose Pond area will continue in early May. Additional holes will test two airborne and ground EM targets located just west of Duck Pond and step-out drilling will be undertaken to expand resources in the Lower Duck Pond massive sulphide horizon. As announced in Stockwatch March 13, 2000, Thundermin and Queenston have retained MRDI Canada, a division of AGRA Simons Limited, to complete a new resource calculation followed by a bankable feasibility study for the Duck Pond project. The resource calculation, which will be completed by mid-May, has commenced and will incorporate the results for the new Boundary drilling reported above. The Duck Pond property, which is under option from Noranda Inc., is located in west-central Newfoundland approximately 30 km southeast of Buchans and hosts two base metal deposits, the Duck Pond and Boundary, that contain inferred resources of approximately six million grading 3.4 per cent Cu, 6.4 per cent Zn, 1.1 per cent Pb, 61.4 g/t Ag and 0.9 g/t Au.
