Ah, but it does apply to the subject. It sounds as though it is not his right to pray that is at issue at all; rather it is the statement that he was perceived as making.

Obviously (?), I do not condone the retribution that he suffered. It is violation of the principle of free speech, IMO, and as a libertarian I am disgusted and appalled. However, he must have known how his statement would appear, how provocative and how open to interpretation as insult to the anthem it might be perceived.
