All these sites that contain mp3 files open to copying for anyone will probably get shut down within days of being up. Groups of people are hired to scan the net and hunt for all these sites. Given any IP address, it is not hard to close down all those sites if they are in any country with a well developed infrastructure for fast internet (us, canada, europe) since they tend to be 1st world countries. Eg, if only sites in yugoslavia or china can host these mp3 files for download, the throughput would be so slow that it would be enough to inconvenience most people.

I don't mind making mp3 files from CDs I paid for and own, but I will not pass them on to my friends or relatives, just like I don't make CD copies of software I purchase, and I definitely won't place them in a folder that allows the world to copy them.

Songwriters and singers have to eat too.
