Some info on Intelect: Intelect Launches Revolutionary IP-over-SONET Solution.
RICHARDSON, Texas, June 18 1999 /PRNewswire/ -- Intelect Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: ICOM), an innovator in converged networking solutions, announced the market release of a revolutionary Ethernet 10/100 Mbps interface module for its Multiprotocol Access Platform line of Integrated Access Devices, trade- named SonetLynx(TM) and FibreTrax(TM).
With the increasing demand for integrated voice, data and video solutions at the central office and customer premise, Intelect's Ethernet module provides the enterprise the perfect solution for integrating separate Local Area Networks (LANs) into a Wide Area Network (WAN) over broadband Sonetlynx fiber-optic networks. Other features that make the Ethernet 10/100M Interface module a unique solution for the access market are flexible bandwidth assignment and repeating or filtering bridge modes with IP broadcast and multicast support.
This unique multi-point feature comes with full protection switching support making it the industry's only Ethernet solution to provide fully protected multipoint IP-over-SONET support. In multipoint applications it can support more than 30 Ethernet LAN segments in a single SONET ring. The IEEE 802.3 compliant Ethernet module auto-senses 10Mb or 100Mb connections in both point-to-point and point-to-multipoint configurations.
"Intelect Network Technologies is offering the SonetLynx/FibreTrax 10/100M Ethernet module as the most innovative standards-based IP-over-Sonet solution on the market today with unique extensions requiring only a single module per node for multipoint support," said John Tuder, chief operating officer for Intelect Network Technologies, the division producing SonetLynx.
The Ethernet 10/100M module is the first of a line of interfaces based on a highly innovative, scalable and aggressive time-to-market architecture that allows Intelect to add new services and protocols to its already impressive lineup as required by CLECs and other players in the access market. INT's Multiprotocol Access Platform offers the industry's largest range of voice, data and video protocols in a Sonet platform, making it the ideal solution for CLECs -- both for co-location at the central office as well as at the customer premise.
With an industry-first level of platform integration, Intelect is strongly positioned to offer a wide variety of voice, data and video protocols for the CLEC market. An extensive array of network interfaces ranging from Sonet OC-1 to OC-12 and DS-1/DS-3 makes Intelect's NEBS-3 compliant product a unique fit for co-locating at the Central Office (OC-12 is planned for general availability later this year). An even broader range of interfaces that provide FXS/FXO/4-Wire E&M voice, RS-232/RS-449/V.35/RS-422/Ethernet 10/100M data and multi-point, switched security and surveillance video services enable the end-user to access the PSTN and the Internet at the customer premise.
Intelect Communications, Inc. is an innovator in converged networking solutions. Telecommunications deregulation has facilitated an explosion in new opportunities for communication services such as high-speed Internet, video and countless voice services. However, the piecemeal universe of communication equipment impedes service providers in offering these services to customers and also hinders enterprises in deploying these services in their networks. Intelect has created a new generation of networking equipment which enables service providers and enterprises to deliver converged voice, data and video services over their existing communication infrastructures. Intelect's revolutionary products are open architecture "platforms" that combine state- of-the-art hardware and software, creating levels of integration, flexibility, scalability and interoperability previously unachievable in communications equipment.
