Well dave, and that's a deep subject...
Thank you, Sir, Profusely, for, ahem, reminding why, after employing, nay enjoying, a subscription to the esteemed and estimable Economist in the late ate-ies, I have reverted to an agnostic stance on the assumed whiz-dumb of the gathered editorialists. And I might suggest to the non-cognescenti, that there is no one hired at the E-conomist who is not an e-ditorialist, company motto? 'hey, opinions 'r us'. My favorite line from the prophetic visionaries at that unE-publication was the advice proferred to any reader that it was now probably safe and potentially lucrative to enter the peso zone, aka Me-hicco, just as the Ze-dillo admin took shape in '94. Oops, sorry about that devaluation thingy folks. Who knew?
I have an acolyte that I'm trying to teach about the economic world at my local community college. We're both grads of U-Wis. Madison, so we naturally are both clueless about the real world of finance. But I got a few years on Mark to wise up to the facts. Anahoo, tonight I was so delighted 'cause Mark said to me, (without prompting) that he understands that the Economist smuggly takes credit for its good calls, and is loathe to mention its lame ones. This is real learning. He mentioned that the rag is recently touting how it was right in 1938 to disdain Chamberlain for his treaty with Hitler in Austria. All I have to ask of the crowd at the Economist is "what have you done for me lately?" FY&TSYRIO***
