Seems to me that Gray says Cisco has time and is taking a more pragmatic approach. Furthermore some of the acquistions (VSCEL, MEM) are components and unlike LU and NT , CSCO is not a component company so there are no parallels.

All optical switch. LOL! This is a misnomer. In order for light to be switched software or hardware has to make a decision... yes the path can be switched optically but the decision is still made electronically. That being said there are switches that use tunable lasers but these are still circuit based...the tunability reduces management costs by streamlining provisioning.

We shall see. No doubt Cisco has some catching up do but this article hardly articulates the real issues.
