No I don't Eric but I assume NT and LU does. Do YOU have more knowledge about the viability of Optics switching than NT or LU? Just who are you trying to kid other than yourself? NT is not going to spend $8 billion US if they thought there was no way to develop an all-optics network from transmission to routing within the next year or two!

Do you REALLY think NT would have paid that much on a whim if they really thought the optical switching was not physically possible within 5 to 10 years as you claim? That would be the stupidest thing for them to do because if that is the case, NT should wait another 3 to 5 years to see who comes out with the best mousetrap!

In fact, I can tell you for fact that NT has it's own internal R&D (they spend $3 BILLION US a year on internal Research & Development by the way.......$3 Billion more than Cisco) who were also developing MEMS based optical switching technology. The main reason why Roth of NT didn't wait for internal dev't was because he wanted NT to be the FIRST to the market with all optics network solution as the demand for Optics soar TODAY NOT 5 years from now.

To think that CSCO could simply wait and jump in once the optics networks are being built is a pretty amateurish statement at best. The reality is that when you are developing new technology, part of the REAL development happens ALONG with a real-world network deployment where you can actually test and de-bug the optics technology in a real-world environment, not in a Pirelli lab.

(By the way, CSCO v-p ...I think Listwin ... made the same ignorant statement about how they were going to wait it out to see which optics technology will win out and that there was no hurry because nothing was going to happen in the Optics field for 5 years. This bone-headed statement was made couple of quarters ago i believe. So what does CSCO do in the next 6 months? Buy a second-tier optics company called Pirelli............for billions of dollars.

Why the sudden urgency when Listwin said they had 5 years to take a wait-&-see attitude? Their actions speak lot more than words -- as usual.
