Movie icons, professional sports figures, rock stars, software geeks, etc. who happened to be in the right place at the right time and raked in the dough with a minimum of effort on their part I'd agree on some of those, but I balk at the software geeks. Have you ever tried to write software? Have you tried to write better software than the million other software geeks that are out there trying to do it? It is an intensely competitive business, and I don't think anyone gets to the top of it without plenty of hard work and a good bit of smarts. How about the investors? I have a neighbor who, six years ago, was persuaded by a friend to put his life's savings into a small tech company. Dumb move, except that the company was QCOM. How much hard work went into that one?
