I would have agreed with you if weren't the existence of Palm. In my opinion, the Palm OS will do to handhelds what Windows did to the PC.

Also, I think the consumer market is huge. My old company sold over 20 million units of MPEG decoders last year. Each with a 32 bit MIPS class processor in it. Imagine if they all had an OS. That's only the tip of the iceburg. The consumer electronics market may only be 7% of the embedded OS market in the past, but that's certainly going to change. This market is going to be 10 times as big as PC.
