The candidates in this election bore me to tears, but one thing I do find interesting is that both parties seem to be breaking the trend of playing primarily to the political center. It will be interesting to see how that one works out.

There is a tendency in political circles to assume that nonaligned voters are simply apathetic. I don't think this is the case. I think a lot of them are people like me, people who don't like the fiscal liberalism of the Democrats but can't abide the social conservatism of the Republicans. What we'll do this time around I don't know; both parties - and I think these platforms are products of parties, not candidates - seem determined to abandon us. I expect a very meager turnout. I think there are more moderates out there than there are liberals or conservatives, and I think the moderates will stay home in droves.
