I'm 53. I've chosen my investments since 1967. I remember the crash in 1968, the secular bear market of 1973-74, the doldrums and inflation of the 70's, the oil/tech boom of 1977-80, the secular bear market of 1981-82 (when I was probably about your age now), the tech wreck in 1983, the crash in 1987, the cyclical bear market in 1990, the tech correction in 1993-94, the semiconductor bear market and dawn of Internet investing in 1995, the spring technology correction in 1997, and the Asian currency crisis in 1998.

This is nothing new, BO.
