Universal Access Inks Deal with Equinix to Provide Carrier-Neutral Global Broadband Connectivity.
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 11, 2000
Universal Access to build Universal Transport Exchange(TM)Facilities in Equinix IBX(TM)Centers
Universal Access, Inc. (NASDAQ:UAXS) today announced plans to provide participants in Equinix Inc.'s Internet Business Exchange(TM) (IBX(TM)) centers, high-capacity, point-to-point connections using the broadband networks of leading carriers globally.
Equinix IBX(TM) centers are ideal places where Internet content providers, e-commerce companies and Application Service Providers (ASPs) can choose from the widest variety of carriers, ISPs, and site and performance management companies. Internet companies locate their mission-critical operations in IBX(TM) centers because they have access to a unique combination of global partners and customers, services and security designed to reduce Internet operations costs and increase revenues.
Universal Access is a business-to-business, independent intermediary providing integrated networks solutions, combining information management and multiple vendor interconnection facilities to create end-to-end network ubiquity.
Universal Access intends to build Universal Transport Exchange (UTX(TM)) facilities in multiple Equinix IBX(TM) centers for the interconnection of carrier and customer networks. In addition to installing and maintaining UTX facilities, Universal Access expects to provision additional network capacity and circuits for Equinix IBX(TM) customers.
"As a neutral business-to-business intermediary, Universal Access looks forward to working with Equinix to help solve the provisioning and capacity issues found in today's fragmented telecommunications industry," said Mark Dickey, Vice President of Business Development at Universal Access. "We are enabling IBX(TM) participants to meet their growing capacity needs by giving them a competitive edge through faster provisioning and cost-effective solutions."
Universal Access is an efficient and cost-effective outsourced solution for provisioning and interconnecting circuits from multiple vendors of network capacity, accelerating time-to-market compared with more traditional methods of provisioning. According to a recent report from Forrester Research, this can translate into provisioning an end-to-end link in the U.S. 20 percent faster. By leveraging their Universal Information Exchange (UIX), a proprietary database containing capacity, availability, physical location and pricing information for more than 35 transport suppliers and 75,000 physical sites, Universal Access can provide its clients both speed-to-market and a competitive advantage within the marketplace.
Universal Access' growing network of UTX sites extends its points of neutral, carrier interconnections. This facilitates in stitching the fragmented communications network back together, and creates network ubiquity for provisioning end-to-end circuit solutions for its customers. The addition of the UTX facilities in Equinix IBX(TM) centers will enhance efficient interconnections among multiple carrier networks at various new geographic points, while offering Equinix's customers access to additional circuits and end-to-end network capacity to meet their growing business needs.
"Universal Access is excited about this relationship with Equinix. It will allow us to add up to 30 new UTX facilities, significantly expanding our network of carrier interconnections through our integrated solution for circuit provisioning." Dickey said. "By housing UTX facilities in IBX(TM) centers, Universal Access will extend its own reach, while provisioning critical additional network capacity for IBX(TM) participants."
