I agree with UF's example and analysis of the wash sale rule. There is no net tax impact if the follow-on position is also closed within the same tax year. (An exception can occur if the wash sale rule is also triggered on this follow-on position.)

I participated in last weekend's posts on the wash sale rule. I apologize to you and others on this thread who may have made investment decisions after placing unwarranted importance on the wash sale rule because of my posts which did not mention the non-impact of same-year closings.

Please consult your tax advisor as planned ... and may I never stroke the keyboard again re tax issues.
