i understand your concern about possible overlap of utilities, mag. i run nortons also and i still believe in the usefulness of the win98 system file checker feature i pointed you towards. all you need do is click the start button and let it check. if a file is corrupt, the next feature allows you to extract it from the win98 disk. this is beyond norton's capability.

running the check won't hurt and might help.
