It doesn't boast well for their sponsors if everyone is sitting on the sidelines, because most are brokerage houses anyway. You can bet there volume has been slashed in 1/2 over the past week or so. If they continue on the negative trail then volume will decrease even more.

Not to mention all that dot com advertising revenue (dot com advertising demand raised TV ad prices by 30% last year, I believe) will dry up just as fast!

A protracted bear market (and I don't think this is one) would wreak havoc on all of the economy.

The classic cycle is playing out. The more people who show up here spewing doom and gloom and the sky is falling, the closer we are to a bottom. Just when the retail investor thinks it's time to short the market it will turn around. This whole thing is about fleecing the retailers - reallocation of the money back to the good ole boys where they think it belongs.

And they're playing most of us "newbies" (myself included) like fiddles!
