Following the meeting, he said that the company could do a cash deal for up to C$1 billion without hurting its balance sheet, but for larger acquisitions it would use stock. There is no real practical limit on the size of an acquisition the company could do, Morgan said. He said the company's first priority is to increase its natural gas assets either through an aquisition in Canada or the U.S., but Alberta Energy will "probably need to do something more internationally on the acquisition front," to advance its goal of becoming a leading international independent oil and gas company. He said the company isn't currently looking at any of the Canadian oil and gas producers that have put themselves up for sale or have received unsolicited bids. These include Ranger Oil Ltd., (RGO) Ulster Petroleums Ltd. (T.ULP), and Newport Petroleum Corp. (T.NPP).
