It's tax time.....again. After all the horror stories that were told on The Hill and the agency was exposed for the bullies they are, has the IRS changed as promised?

As government agencies go, this particular one is as screwed up as it gets. I don't mind paying my fair share. I do mind being penalized for their mistakes and their inept handling of my taxes for the past 12 years. You'd think that after so much time has passed and so many form letters (9 in all)from them telling me that yes, we made an error in our calculations and we do owe you money, however, the statute of limitations on the government remittance is up (3 years). No we can't apply what we owe you and what we should've paid you to your current years taxes. They can go back as many years as they want to get money from you but, they're only liable for 3 years? It took them 9 years to figure out that they screwed up, this after garnishing wages but not applying a 10,000. payment made 9 years previous when this whole mess started.

When it was all said and done and the name calling subsided, they did admit that they were in error 12 years ago. Their excuse was they're an under funded high stress department of the US government. They have a high turnover rate among their "in office people" (what ever that means) at the local level and therefore errors are to be expected.

Only a government agency is allowed to operate in this fashion.

Oh well.......
