Sam,

Back when I was in college a finance professor of mine was talking about the prepayment penalty that many banks would charge if someone with an older, low-interest rate mortgage would pay off their loan. At the time rates were well above 10% and so the bank would benefit mightily if the owner paid off his below-market rate loan. To charge a prepayment fee on top of this is patently absurd. Anyway he said it would be like a beautiful woman (Marilyn Monroe, I think he used) asking him to sleep with her and him asking her for money! I get the same sense of the absurd with this whole Seagate deal. We're getting mugged and we are paying for the privilege of the beating.

Anyway, your post made me angry again. I am getting very close to going long Seagate and short Veritas with the hopes that I will end up with an independent Seagate again. Why can't I stay away from this?
