Little Microsofts ...

Currently, Microsoft has taken the low price, high volume approach to marketing their products. A dollar lost on Windows can be re-captured on Office as long as the consumer remains 'in the family.'

If Microsoft splits, say OS and Applications, consumers would be purchasing their software from two companies both trying to maximize their profits. In this environment, the consumer would expect, and be required, to pay higher prices for every piece needed to fill their needs. We can disregard compatibility issues because they are sure to worsen -- this is a given.

A break-up of Microsoft will harm consumers. This fact is axiomatic.

Cheers, PW.
