Re: LMDS Supplier- Alpha Industries Supplying Newbridge

Thread- I'm always on the lookout for evidence of strength in newly developing technologies. Here's another small indicator that LMDS appears to be for real with regards to Newbridge. NN's Matthews emphasized that LMDS was very strong for them a few months back in their warning CC. All recent indications seem to back his statements about LMDS. -MikeM(From Florida)

Alpha Industries Shipping GaAs High-Performance Amplifiers for Newbridge Networks LMDS System

WOBURN, Mass., Apr 13, 2000-- Alpha Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: AHAA) announced today that it is shipping production volumes of high-performance gallium arsenide (GaAs) amplifiers for use in Local Multipoint Distribution System (LMDS) equipment provided by Newbridge Networks. Alpha's GaAs amplifiers, operating at 28GHz, are used in LMDS equipment that offers very high-speed broadband data, Internet and telecommunications access.

LMDS offers data rates of up to 150 MBps, without the high network installation costs of many other broadband data solutions. A compact base station and simple customer premises equipment provides direct wireless links to businesses and homes.

"Alpha's strategic decision to develop proprietary, enabling technology for broad-band data access markets, including LMDS, is paying off," stated Colin Sweeney, Alpha's Director of Application Specific Products. "We are now seeing orders and shipments for our GaAs ICs into a broad range of high-speed wireless and cable data access equipment. Alpha intends to be a major provider of proprietary GaAs IC-based solutions in these exciting high-growth markets."
