When you say that it "took a while" for the decimated stocks of 83 to come back, did that constitute a bear market? Or was it a correction?

Betty, I tend to stay away from labels -- since one person's bear market tends to be another person's correction:)

My recollection is that the decline in 1983 lasted until the end of that year -- and it was at least a year thereafter, before we saw prices return to the the former levels. But don't hold me to this -- it is off memory. What I do know is that Fidelity Select Technology after making a high of $38+ in 1983 finally bottomed at $15+ -- not sure why that piece of information left such an indelible impression on my mind.

Anyway, it looks like the NAZ rally that we had fizzled rather quickly --- does not appear very encouraging; perhaps we will see the 300-400 point decline that I wanted sooner rather than later!
