I honestly don't know enough about the TX laws regarding how commutation or clemency cases are handled, but I do recall that he spoke out on the subject and that he was in accord with her execution. So I have to believe that he had to agree with it. Frankly, I have less problem with Bush than I do the Carnahan commutation in MO. That was obviously politically motivated, done strictly to co-incide with the Papal visit and to avoid any political "embarassment". When that occurred, I thought, my God, these men on death row will die simply because of a scheduling conflict....It mattered not about the particulars of the case. Carla Faye Tucker had a case to be made on the merits, yet she was denied on principle. I freely admit that for the first time, (I had always been a death penalty supporter) her case moved me to believe that there is a place to show mercy, I really did not feel that any good purpose would be served by her death. I also admit that I really don't care if people like Timothy McVeigh or the animal that killed Polly Klaas or the men who dragged/tortured and murdered Mr. Byrd in TX to his death were to be executed, I would consider it no loss. But in order to be consistent, in the hope that those who should be shown some mercy as in the case of Carla Faye Tucker ,if the only way is to eliminate the death penalty, then I would be for it.
