Jim,

Where were you when Microsoft needed you? <G>

I called them and wrote letters offering my assistance; they never called back. Go figure! <G>

There are some parts of the Microsoft trial where I think Microsoft crossed the line and others that I don't think they did. First, I believe that if your going to buy 10,000 copies of Windows to put on all 10,000 of the systems you're building, I think you should get the same price as someone who's buying 10,000 copies of Windows to put on 10,000 systems they're building even if they're putting Linux on 90,000 other systems. My understanding is that Microsoft priced these situations differently.

OTOH, I have no problem with them bundling IE. I've always used Netscape and have never had a single problem installing and upgrading it on my system. Where was the Justice Department when the Spelling Checker companies were going out of business because spelling checkers were being integrated into word processors? Or companies that made Outliners, for that matter? Is Justice going to sue all the ERP and DBMS companies because they're integrating workflow capabilities into their software and the standalone workflow software companies are disappearing? Madness. This is how technology progresses!

But I rant. Sorry.

Dave

p.s. The three/four companies that really piss me off are Sun, AOL/Netscape, and Oracle for opening the door and inviting the feds into the high-tech business. I do hope that it comes back to bite them a little in the future.
