After The Bell - PMC-Sierra drops after earnings

NEW YORK, April 13 (Reuters) - Shares of Canadian communications chip maker PMC-Sierra Inc. (NASDAQ: PMCS) dropped nearly 10 points in after-hours trading after the company posted first-quarter results.

The stock traded down to 116 on Instinet compared with a closing price of 125-9/16 on the Nasdaq. PMC-Sierra dropped 22-1/4 during the regular session.

After the market closed, the company reported net income of $0.14 per share for the quarter and proforma income excluding items of $0.17 per share. Analysts expected a profit of $0.16 per share, according to a poll by First Call/Thomson Financial, but whisper numbers pegged that 1-2 cents higher.

Sun Microsystems Inc. (NASDAQ: SUNW) rose to 78-15/16 from a closing price of 77-3/4 after reporting better-than-expected profits. The stock was down 2-1/4 in regular trading.

Juniper Networks (NASDAQ: JNPR) rose to 178-1/2 after hours from a close of 175 on Nasdaq following its announcement of earnings and a stock split. The telecom equipment maker had profits of $0.06 per share for the quarter, besting Wall Street targets of $0.03. The stock lost 29-1/8 in regular trading.
