I don't know anybody who runs this, but there is no question, that there are many products out there, that are better than the corresponding part in a typical Linux distribution. This is great!!! Because we've had Unix software around all the time, but what Linux does is to set a standard.
If a software component is Linux-compatible, it's good. BSD software can replace things like the Linux kernel, making internet servers faster and more stable, and still run the same software as your favorite Linux distribution. Great.
But since it's Linux that shows the path, and since I do not need those BSD features, I choose Linux.
It's a Unix implosion, with Linux at the center and Sun as one of the few survivors who will benefit of the increased market share of *nix. |
