Tom, self installation is the big thing that is going to open up the DSL market. Right now if you want DSL, you have to wait 4 to 6 weeks for an additional phone line to be ran, a technician to come out and install the proper equipment (splitter, etc.)and modem, and then for the ISP to set you up. Costly and time consuming. Or at the minimum, a technician has to come out and install a splitter (splits the data portion and the voice portion of the line) and setup the modem and dedicated data jack. My understanding is that you can only use the jack that the technician sets up. This still requires a "truck roll" and limits the convenience to the consumer.

Companies that use Aware's technology can simply buy a DSL modem at the store (should be out this summer) and call up their ISP, hook the modem up to any existing phone line just like a 56K modem, and poof they have DSL. No truck roll, no additional phone line needed, and very inexpensive. You can still talk over the phone while on the net. And the phone company can even give you multiple voice lines on the existing line at a very low cost to them. This could increase the growth rate for DSL considerably.

By the way, this is not Aware's only product. They sell the ADSL and G.Lite "technology" to companies like Analog Devices, Lucent, and Intel who sell their chipsets to just about every big name company from Cisco and Nortel to Samsung and Compaq. The splitterless G.Lite concept is just icing on the cake so to speak.
