The information regarding the products and services being offered and acquired on these portals will be published in standard formats (XML vocabularies) using software from the major database vendors. The Internet provides the exchange medium to distributed network of servers running software from the same companies. That only makes sense since they have the publishing and back-end tools already. What CMRC, and others, are doing is operating the network of servers, charging for membership, transactions, software, et cetera.

Since the big software companies already have application servers, they look at B2B as as more of the same. It's the adoption of XML that makes this all possible, just as HTTP and HTML made the World Wide Web possible. Nobody is going to have a lock on B2B portals. Everybody and their dog will be getting into this, followed by a shakeout. CMRC looks to be a winner but they could be a winner with a market cap of two or three billion versus the current eight or nine.
