I know that it is so because I have a dear friend for whom it is so. I do not empathize because it is certainly not the case for me, but I try to comprehend it in my understanding of him.

I don't think that it is so much that we don't agree on pleasure on some basic level. It seems to me that the differences lie in how we achieve the experience of pleasure.

I suspect that there is some basic underlying agreement on morality. Otherwise, it would, I think, be very difficult for societies to develop as more than groups for safety. On the other hand, I think that it is extremely basic if it does exist and that the rest is learned over time through the larger environment's influences.
