I don't believe the individual will own their digitalme id

I'm at the stage where you have to prove it to me.
At Brainshare I noticed I could find the name, address, and telephone number as well as email of anyone attending the conference.

Novell never asked me if I wanted all of these things to be visible to others. They were!

===========================

My suggestion is they stop pretending that they are doing anything to protect individual identity with digitalme and just admit it is an infrastructure component useful for identity management. Sell the infrastructure and forget about the baloney. Otherwise Novell is going to get grief from the first commercial user of its technology that does a doubleclick.com.

Sure I could change them to misinformation, but that is essentially the level of protection that a faceless corporation gives you. So Novell played follower again instead of leader.

We are at the stage of why should I trust Novell to protect my identity against say their instant messaging system partner. Should I take a chance in allowing AOL to penetrate my corporation?

Is there any evidence that Novell is protecting anybody?

Regarding CMGI, the significance of this deal is that Novell will get a showcase platform for ichain type consulting sales. They will be building the kind of system that demonstrates all of their NETWORK SERVICE infrastructure technologies, in other words directory based apps, that they want to sell to their corporate customers. This is very good for Novell's credibility and visibility. It is good that SUNW is on board with this. These are wins for Novell in indirect revenue but not necessarily in direct revenue.

They fall into the category of proof of concept and endorsement of technology.
