Religions are a starting point for a person's values or moral beliefs. Same way with laws and myths. A person doesn't come from a background of no morals and suddenly have a code. You take, reject, blend and then you come up with a set of your own.

A lot of the religious laws made very good sense in their day. Murder, theft and adultery certainly bad for society at all times. The Jewish ban on eating pork probably saved many from trichinosis in the early days.

Reject, add and blend. If it offends you-reject. And search for the reason. Listen to the experience of elders. AND YES I SPELLED trichinosis RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.
