I think we've seen other drop-offs before:

mid-95 to mid-96 was major correction, due to oversupply due to overbuilding

mid-97 to mid-98 was asian flu correction, caused by drop in demand.

march to april 00 was due to widespread panic, profit-taking, the spread of momentum mentality. But the herd may be telling us something, that the technology wave may be ahead of itself in what end-users can and will buy this year and next and next. Maybe so.
