Why the heck would QCOM pursue this strategy if the widely touted "all CDMA roads lead to Qualcomm" mantra is true?

QCOM's "wheels and axle" IPR for CDMA will expire before the decade is over -- my estimate, since I never got an answer from the QCOM threads. If W-CDMA only uses that IPR (a good assumption given the research Nokia and others are putting into W-CDMA), QCOM's royalty revenues will also run out before the decade ends. So at that point QCOM will be reduced to just another W-CDMA chip vendor. So unless they can establish and control their own standard, their long term prospects are not particularly bright. They certainly don't justify a triple digit P/E ratio.
