Hi Scumbria; Re Intel only using RDRAM with Williamette; I agree.

The fact is that it is way too late for Intel to design RDRAM type interfaces out of their larger chips for this year. Memory type is an early product design cycle decision, and effects a lot of other stuff in the design.

On the other hand, Intel now has a translator hub to convert SDRAM to and RDRAM interface. Are they reving it, or altering BIOS or etc., to get the problems out of it? I would guess that they are. That solution is likely to allow them to convert Williamette to SDRAM the same way.

There is no reason for them to announce in advance that Williamette will be so supported. The lead time for the mother board houses is relatively short. And RDRAM prices could be low by the time Williamette comes out. So there is no reason to announce SDRAM support in advance.

It all boils down to what their customers want. If at the time Williamette really becomes available RIMMs are still pricey, their customers will demand SDRAM, and that will be delivered.
