Hi John Walliker; The lesson on price quotes was to give mom and pop who doubt DDR a chance to find out for themselves. As far as high volume quotes, I find that the big quantities take longer for them to figure out, so I ask for the easy numbers first. If you know exactly what you want, then there really is no need. But if you look at the Samsung website's product number description for RDRAM, you will discover that the 144Mb part, for example, can come in many 100s of varieties (not all of which will be manufactured, but the only way to find out is to ask):

So I ask for a price list, and then, when they won't give it to me, I ask for the part number that is cheapest. One place wouldn't give me that either, so I asked for the prices on each of the individual varieties. (Get a comfortable chair before you do this.) But usually you can make guesses about which packages are cheaper, for instance. By the way, did you notice that Sony takes a different package than regular, in the above link?
