Re: Clinton?
Hi Carl, great to see you're still out there! Hope you're doing well.
As far as Bill is concerned, I thought his policy roundtables demonstrated a depth of knowledge of the issues that was pretty much unprecedented in a modern candidate. As it turned out, one way or another, the planet, and especially this country (notwithstanding yesterday) have done very well these past 7 years.
OTOH, I fully understand and sympathize with those who can't stand him. The one thing he will never be accused of is being perfect. But I came of age at a time when Nixon extended the war (killing hundreds of thousands and destroying the economy) so he would be re-elected. I just don't see Clinton's foibles as being so terrible, and think that the impeachment was a waste of time (I know that many disagree).
A lot of it may have been chance, luck, and the work of others (like Bush initiating the recovery and Greenspan keeping it going). But Clinton seems to have been the right man for the times these past few years. Right or wrong, he's gone in a few months either way.
The daughter of a close friend attends school with the Clinton's daughter. She is a very bright, well adjusted, friendly, unpretentious, kid. To me, this says a lot about Clinton that can't be discerned from what is passed off as news these days.
Oh no, have I just started on of those off-topic shooting matches that are so annoying? Anyone who wants, rip up this post - I won't reply.
Regards,
