Tero,

Who's going to pick up the tab? Neither Sprint nor Verizon has any experience in Japan; no second generations subscriber base, no retail network, no brand, no nothing. I can't begin to guess how expensive it would be to build all this up from scratch. Using a standard that is incompatible with the 3G standards used by DoCoMo, Japan Telecom and DDI would drive the costs through the roof.

As an industry observer, I expect you to know that Vodafone is in deed in Japan (pereviously called AirTouch wireless). Either you are intentionally ignoring it, or you only research GSM world news.

Just try to remind you that QCOM has cooperated with other CDMA carriers such as BCE and Bell Atlantic (Verizon) around the world to set up CDMA networks. I do not know why this application (if it is true)to operate 3G CDMA networks in Japan is any different than other places. The only difference is that Europe and China's gov. have no guts to allow CDMA networks at all.
