GTE Press Conference to Announce Company's Data and Related Growth Strategies
STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 6, 1997--You are invited to attend a press conference at 11:15 EDT today in the Park Avenue Center Room on the fourth floor of the Waldorf-Astoria, Park Avenue at 48th. Street, New York City, to discuss details of GTE's initiatives to establish the company as a leading national provider of telecommunications services. As announced this morning, these initiatives include:
the acquisition of BBN, a leading provider of end-to-end Internet solutions, in a transaction valued at approximately $616 million; a strategic alliance with Cisco Systems, Inc. to jointly develop enhanced data and Internet applications for customers; and the purchase of a national, state-of-the-art fiber-optic network being constructed by Qwest Communications.
Joining GTE Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Charles R. Lee will be GTE President Kent B. Foster and BBN Chairman and Chief Executive Officer George H. Conrades.
