Minneapolis, April 13 (Bloomberg) -- ADC Telecommunications Inc. said fiscal
second-quarter profit
will beat analysts' estimates by as much as 24 percent on better-than-expected sales of
equipment
that connects telecommunications networks.

The company said it will report profit of 25 cents to 26 cents a share, exceeding the
21-cent average
estimate of analysts surveyed by First Call/Thomson Financial. Sales will surge about
47 percent to
$670 million in the quarter ending April 30 from $456.6 million a year earlier, the
company said.
ADC shares rose 4 7/8, or 10 percent, to 51 7/8.

Telecommunications companies are ordering more ADC gear, from
the devices that link streams of network traffic to parts used in
fiber-optic equipment, to expand their networks and keep pace with
Internet traffic that's doubling every three months.

On March 14, ADC Chief Financial Officer Robert Switz said
second-quarter sales would increase by 35 percent. The company
raised its forecasts again after customers orders for its products
remained strong, spokesman Rob Clark said.

The shares of ADC, based in Minneapolis, have more than doubled
in the past year.
