Thanks for a considered answer. That you are short puts seems to state your personal position pretty clearly.

I have a technical question: is there any way to sell a "covered" put? (other than having the cash to buy the shares sitting in an account) In other words, is there any difference between selling a put and being short puts? Is there an investment configuration that results in a "covered put" in the sense that one can sell a "covered call?"

I'm less impressed by Intel's announced capital investment plans. They should have done this two years ago, when AMD did. Instead, they spent the mortgage money on dot com stocks. At this point, Intel shows signs of having lost dominance of their core markets for the foreseeable future. (Intel will continue to be the largest player, but may no longer control those markets as they have in the past) That investment program is more than a day late and more than a dollar short.
