>>what happens now?

Flight to safety. Pain and confusion, followed by ineffectual mantras of strength of the economy. We may see the biggest test of the trading system since circuit breakers took effect. There will be some announcements of failures by smaller firms and funds, and persistent rumors of bigger ones. The Fed will be reluctant to step in at first, due to fear of moral hazard, but will eventually succumb to the "Too Big To Fail" doctrine. The Fed Reserve Bank of NY will get on the horn and assure brokerages of sufficient liquidity. In other words, as usual, the Fed will send the appropriate signal at the appropriate time and prevent utter collapse of the financial system as we know it. There will then be the biggest rally in the stock market that you have ever seen.<G>
