Good news for Hurricane HydrocarbonsASTANA. April 14 (Interfax) - The government of Kazakhstan has canceled the limit on oil exports in 2000, the Energy Ministry
officially reported on Friday. Late last year the government approved a resolution limiting oil exports to 22 million tonnes in 2000. The measure was enacted to ensure an ample supply of crude oil to domestic refineries. Oil producers operating in Kazakhstan were highly critical of the limit. Nonetheless, government officials have insisted the limit served its purpose. Kazakhstan produced about 26 million tonnes of oil in 1999, of which it exported over 20 million tonnes. This year Kazakhstan plans to produce 30 million tonnes of oil and 3 million tonnes of gas condensate.
