Clappy, I beg to differ. The best Baseball team EVER was the Oakland A's of 1972,1973,and 1974.

Perhaps that was the best answer of all the teams I've seen in my life time with the possible exception of the Big Red Machine of Cincinnati.

However, the '98 Yankees displayed shear dominance over their opponents day-in and day-out.

Starting before the '96 season the team showed strength.
In '96 we beat Voltaire's Braves coming from behind.

Then '98 was incredible.
'99 was a walk through the motions. The core group of players continued to produce.

As far as pitching goes, in '98 David Wells (perhaps my favorite) pitched a perfect game.
In '99 his buddy David Cone pitched a perfect game.
I was lucky enough to catch both games on T.V.

If you asked me who would I prefer to go to a party with, I'd answer the '73 A's. They sure were a bunch of cool guys. Long hair and attitudes to match.

Catfish Hunter and Reggie Jackson were two A's who eventually played for the Yanks.
They also stand out in my mind as childhood hero's from that era.
My other childhood favorites were (some from different Yankee teams) Thurmon Munson, Goose Gossage, Ron Guidry, Chris Chamblis (famous homerun), Bucky Dent (Boston beater homerun to win Division Tie-Breaker), and Greg Nettles (diving saves at 3rd base). There were many more.

Anyone else have any favorite players they remember as a kid growing up?
