I am not a day trader and besides there are days when it does not happen. Nonetheless how do you explain the pattern?

I don't know if the pattern exists in the first place, so I couldn't begin to explain it. But now you are telling me that there are days when the pattern is not in place, and that you are not willing to test it anyway.

Joe,

There is a pattern but it does not happen daily.

Lets recap.....I said to Chic that I have seen stocks with an intraday spread of 4-6 pts on a regular basis; they go down in the AM and then snap up big near the close. It looks to me like these stocks are being manipulated. Seasoned traders say that that kind of manipulation does exist. You seem to disagree. I am afraid I can not provide you with the evidence to convince you otherwise. Sorry!

You say the MM scene has been cleaned up and you feel that there is occasional manipulation of illiquid stocks and little, if any with liquid stocks. This again is contrary to what I have read and heard but again I do not have facts to refute your claim....so again, we are at an impasse.
