*How do you access the Internet? I presume you must be on a phone modem, surely they dont have cable or anything in that area? What is the population locally? JDN*

Its not real well known but GCI (GNCMA) provides us (Alaskans) with one of the best telecommunications systems on the planet. They are 20% owned by WCOM. Penetration via broadband as well as pure Internet access are among the highest rates on the planet. Alaskans are one of the best-connected peoples in the US. From my home I am hooked up on a 512K connection and at my office I have a 1M connection for just a few more dollars a month.

By the way, I estimate GCI's "truly" integrated offerings to be worth upwards of $20, while they are currently trading at ~$5 . . . the problem is visibility though . . . this may be solved by the missile defense program that should be in place in Alaska by 2003 . . . the redundancy required system will take up most of the available bandwidth on GCI's own undersea (yes they own it) fiber to the "lower 48".

Anyway, there are similar bargains out there at this point anyway, namely GBLX.
