Hotels Can Now Obtain State-of-the-Art In-Room Computers And High Speed Internet Access at No Cost from StayOn-Line.com Nationwide Rollout Beginning May 1
ATLANTA, Apr 12, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Atlanta-based start-up e-centre.net announced today it has contracts to equip guest rooms in more than 300 hotels and motels nationwide with state-of-the-art in-room computers and high speed internet access. The "StayOn-Line" product was introduced Wednesday at the American Hotel and Motel Association convention in Phoenix, Arizona.
The company has also announced it has received a multi-million dollar initial round of venture capital funding from Avenel Investments of North Carolina.
High speed Internet connections will be available through "StayOn-Line.com" for only $6.99 per night, while a unique program will also offer the service for free to customers staying in selected hotels. An in- room computer with high-speed Internet access is just $9.95 per night.
"StayOn-Line will offer affordability, portability, convenience, and a total solution to guests staying in mid-priced, budget and extended stay properties -- the largest segment of the market," said StayOn-Line.com chairman Cary Evans. "StayOn-Line offers continuous online high-speed Internet connectivity and a highly customizable Internet portal with extensive content for travelers that can be customized for the individual hotel." With just one call to StayOn-Line.com, a single hotel or hotel chain can be on-line with high-speed connections and in-room computers within 45 days. The service is free to the hotel while the revenue from the customer is shared. Travelers are demanding these services and co-marketing with the hotel will heighten awareness of the product and provide the hotel with a competitive advantage.
Three Atlanta properties will be ready for guests beginning May 15, 2000. Two hotel chain rollouts will also happen simultaneously.
"The traveling workplace is now demanding in-room internet access and StayOn-Line will go a step further with the high speed and state-of-the-art thin client computers in the hotel room. It will be obsolete for road warriors (business travelers) to carry laptops," Evans said. "People can stay connected when they're traveling without having to lug around all that dead weight of a laptop computer." StayOn-Line will provide a virtual office for anyone staying at StayOn-Line hotels.
Avenel Financial Group is a private venture capital group whose recent investments include Summus, the majority owner of the publicly held High Speed Net Solutions, Inc., zebramart.com, Inc., Adatom.com, Inc., and Vertical Computer Systems Inc.
StayOn-Line will offer a number of services to complement its high speed Internet access and in-room computers. Those services include popular business software, games, content (local information, always visible portal page providing news, sports, stocks, etc.), free web-based services including on-line secure file storage and retrieval from anywhere, file sharing in a virtual network, e-mail, e-fax, e-commerce, video conferencing, and much more.
Other support equipment is also available, including laptops, webcams, digital cameras, multifunction printers, network "nic" cards for laptops, on- line reservation for equipment, and portable I.D. for easy access to all online services.
