It is obvious the most global roaming will be on WCDMA, as I mentioned it builds upon the most deployed infrastructure globally today. The last is fact the first is conjecture, although built upon that fact. That in essence would lead people to the deduction that cdma2000 will be the 'niche' standard.
It looks more and more likely that existing operators will get the keys to the 3G door, and so they would build upon a standard that is built on their existing investment. So I agree about market, rather than technical, superiority - and I have never doubted it. In which case, why should the minority cdmaOne (by a long way) operators rule the roost?
No matter what the Doctor says, cdma2000 was developed for the existing IS-95 deployments (no GSM protocol stacks nor the core, i.e., GSM backbone).
I would love to have a harmonised standard, but do you think that Sprint would agree to it, even though it is said they will go to cdma2000 in the existing spectrum...of course not. So maybe we should just scrap all existing GSM investments and go cdmaOne to cdma2000 route. Naturally, there is no need to answer that.
