RESEARCH ALERT- ABN AMRO ups Texas Instruments to buy
CHICAGO, April 17 (Reuters) - ABN AMRO analyst David Wu said on Monday he raised his rating on Texas Instruments Inc. (NYSE: TXN), the world's leading maker of computer chips used to convert sounds into electronic form, to buy from outperform.

-- said he raised his earnings per share estimates for 2000 to $2.50 from $2.45 and for 2001 to $3.55 from $3.40. Wu said he plans to refine his estimates further after first quarter earnings results are released.

-- said, "We find the semiconductor industry fundamentals stronger than at any time since 1993, with unseasonal strength in the first quarter propelled by robust end market demand."

-- Shares of Texas Instruments closed at 131-12/16 on Friday.
