If I invested 1 million dollars into a software project, I would be quite angry if I didn't receive the source-code. This is the exact reason why big companies chose Linux. A big company wants to be able to solve their own problems. If someone tells General Motors: "Your web-server has a backdoor", they should be able to find that out and fix it within hours. Not days, like in the Microsoft case. And if Coca Cola wants to improve the way the web-server software handles requests from a specific browser, they would probably prefer to make one of their own programmers work a day or two to fix it than to wait for the next version of Microsoft IIS. IT infrastructure is too important today to out-source completely to a company like MSFT.
