I wish I did hear what they said..because I would like to balance it out by reminding them that pennies stocks - the right ones - are where the HUGE opportunities lie. Let's not forget that Microsoft was once a penny stock. A retired attorney at my gym says he owns CISCO from .17.

As noted by Early Out, you have neglected to adjust for stock splits. Here are the actual IPO prices for CSCO and MSFT:

CSCO went public on Feb. 16, 1990. The IPO price was $18.00 per the following:
investor.cisco.com.

MSFT went public on Mar. 13, 1986 at $21.00. See #reply-10453468 for documentation.

BTW, here are a few other well known stocks that also didn't start as penny stocks, though they are occasionally said to have done so:
